Description

A Quick and Flavorful Twist on a Classic Favorite

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large flatbreads or pita bread (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking the beef)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional, for drizzling)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese like mozzarella, American, or Swiss)
  • Lettuce leaves, shredded (optional, for freshness)
  • Sliced tomatoes (optional)
  • Sliced pickles (classic burger topping)
  • Ketchup, mustard, or other condiments (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives) for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat, if necessary. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). If using store-bought flatbreads or pita, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If making homemade flatbreads, cook them in a skillet for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly golden and cooked through.
  3. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the flatbreads. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the flatbread are golden and crispy.
  5. Remove from the oven and top with your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and condiments like ketchup and mustard. Garnish with fresh herbs for a pop of color.
  6. Cut into slices or serve whole. Enjoy with your favorite sides like fries, salad, or coleslaw.
