Description

Instructions

  1. Cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a cookie dough.
  4. Shape the dough into small balls.
  5. Roll each dough ball in finely chopped hazelnuts.
  6. Place the coated dough balls on a baking sheet.
  7. Use your thumb or the back of a small spoon to create an indentation in the center of each cookie.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  9. Remove from oven and immediately press the indentations again to ensure they are deep enough for the filling.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, spoon or pipe the chocolate hazelnut spread into the center of each thumbprint cookie.
  12. Garnish with whole hazelnuts if desired.
