Description

This Eggnog French Toast Bake is a festive breakfast perfect for the holiday season. It features cubed French bread soaked in a rich custard, baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups prepared eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9- by 13-inch baking dish or two 8- by 8-inch baking dishes with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and maple syrup until boiling. Remove from heat and pour into the baking dish.
  3. Spread cubed French bread over the brown sugar mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Add eggnog and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour custard over bread cubes. Press down gently to soak all pieces.
  6. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  7. Remove from the fridge. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Bake covered for 40 minutes.
  8. Increase oven temperature to 375°F (190°C), remove foil, and bake uncovered for 5 to 10 minutes until golden brown and set.
