Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (Swap for whole wheat for nuttier flavor.)
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter (Ensure it’s super cold.)
- 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar (Use coconut sugar for lower glycemic option.)
- 4 tablespoons Cold Water (Can be substituted with milk for richness.)
- 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon (Use fresh cinnamon for vibrant taste.)
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar (Dark brown sugar adds molasses hint.)
- 1 tablespoon Milk (Use plant milk for dairy-free.)
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (Opt for high-quality for best flavor.)
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar (For dusting finished twists.)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and granulated sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add cold water and mix until the dough forms. Wrap it in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, combine ground cinnamon and brown sugar.
- On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the surface of the rolled dough. Fold the dough lengthwise and press to seal the edges. Cut into 1-inch strips.
- Twist each strip several times, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
- In a bowl, mix milk, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle glaze over warm twists.
