Rich and Comforting Hamburger Steak in Creamy Dill Sauce

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup (25g) breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 onion, finely grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for searing)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef or vegetable broth
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (plus more for garnish)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: splash of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, grated onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape into 4 patties. Heat oil in a skillet and sear patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the same pan and melt. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle in flour and whisk for 1 minute. Slowly pour in broth while whisking.
  5. Stir in cream and Dijon mustard. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Stir in chopped dill and season with salt, pepper, and optional lemon juice.
  7. Return patties to the pan, spoon sauce over them, cover, and simmer 8–10 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Garnish with extra dill and serve hot.
