Rich and Comforting Hamburger Steak in Creamy Dill Sauce

- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup (25g) breadcrumbs
- 1/2 onion, finely grated
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon oil (for searing)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240ml) beef or vegetable broth
- 3/4 cup (180ml) heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (plus more for garnish)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional: splash of lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, grated onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape into 4 patties. Heat oil in a skillet and sear patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the same pan and melt. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Sprinkle in flour and whisk for 1 minute. Slowly pour in broth while whisking.
- Stir in cream and Dijon mustard. Simmer until slightly thickened.
- Stir in chopped dill and season with salt, pepper, and optional lemon juice.
- Return patties to the pan, spoon sauce over them, cover, and simmer 8–10 minutes until cooked through.
- Garnish with extra dill and serve hot.
Notes
- Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
