Description

A comforting and sophisticated hot chocolate, blending the nostalgic warmth of gingerbread spices with rich cocoa.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk or milk of your choice
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp molasses
  • Whipped cream (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon or nutmeg for sprinkling (for garnish)
  • Crushed gingerbread cookies (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the unsweetened cocoa powder, brown sugar, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream until smooth. Stir in the molasses.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat, whisking frequently. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and continue whisking until the chocolate chips are fully melted, and the hot chocolate is steaming and hot throughout (do not allow it to boil vigorously).
  4. Remove from heat and pour into individual mugs. Garnish generously with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and crushed gingerbread cookies. Serve immediately.
