Description

This Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake is a decadent, layered dessert. It combines moist chocolate cake with a creamy peanut butter filling, chocolate chips, and chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups. It’s a crowd-pleasing treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Reese’s peanut butter cups, chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until creamy.
  4. Pour half of the chocolate cake batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate batter. Use a knife to swirl it slightly, but do not mix completely.
  6. Pour the remaining chocolate cake batter over the peanut butter layer, spreading gently to cover.
  7. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups on top for added flavor and texture.
  8. Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 20-30 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  10. Slice and serve the cake warm or at room temperature, enjoying the gooey chocolate and peanut butter layers.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
  • Do not overmix the cake batter.
  • Add espresso powder to enhance chocolate flavor.
  • Customize toppings with nuts or chocolate sauce.
  • For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free chocolate cake mix.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan cake mix and egg substitutes.
